The Mississippi River is the longest river in the United States. It is more than 3, 700 kilometers long.
The Mississippi begins as a small creek and at the Gulf of Mexico it is nearly two kilometers wide. In some places it is very deep and in other places it is shallow.
The river gets water from rain, snow, hail, and ice. Many small rivers run into the Mississippi. Half of the rain falling in the United States flows into the Mississippi.
